Brazilian Caipirinha Cocktail Recipe

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Caipirinha, the national drink of Brazil, is a cocktail that’s light, bright and only 3 ingredients.

This is an overlooked cocktail when thinking of delicious lime cocktails. Now it’s time for the caipirinha to take center stage.

When traveling to the land of the Amazon rainforest, Brazilian soccer legends like Neymar and Pelé, and the Christ the redeemer statue – you will encounter the refreshing Brazilian Caipirinha Cocktail.

This post is all about the Brazilian caipirinha cocktail and a delicious recipe for it!

The Caipirinha is both incredibly simple and incredibly delicious. Our hostel invited its guests to a complimentary Caipirinha making class. There are many activities you can sign up for within Brazil. Some teach you about both samba and cachaça tastings – the alcohol used in caipirinhas.

Many of the Latin American countries are known for their cocktails that use alcohol created from sugar cane. Rum, cacique, cachaça is all made from sugar cane. This is because it’s incredibly abundant in the Latin American climate.

In Costa Rica, their lemonade cocktail is made with cacique guaro. This is a very similar cocktail, but lighter. However, the simplicity and use of whole fresh limes in this recipe is surely one to please. *Just make sure to wash your limes thoroughly!*

Variations to The Caipirinha Recipe

*You can make this cocktail in the glass you plan to drink the cocktail out of. Or, you can batch the cocktail in a pitcher or make it in a shaker and shake before serving.*

I chose to write the recipe using the preparation technique of making the cocktail directly in the serving glass. I chose this approach because it’s the most simple and creates the least amount of dirty dishes! If you choose to make the cocktail in a shaker that’s wonderful.

Rather than straining the cocktail into a serving glass, you’ll pour everything into a serving glass. This includes all of the liquid, limes and ice.

*If you’d like to make a mocktail version just swap the cachaça with sparkling water!*
