Every great fairytale needs a great pastry – right? What the bakers are doing at Karjase Sai bakery is nothing short of magical. Located at (Marati tn 5, 11712 Tallinn, Estonia) it’s easiest to take the tram to get from the main city to the bakery.

This unassuming bakery has some of the most extraordinary pastries I’ve ever had. To be crowned the best bakery in Tallinn (in my opinion) is no small feat.

My personal favorite is the rosemary and sea salt twist. It’s flakey, crunchy and chewy in the middle. The rosemary and sea salt are a unique combination for a croissant and it’s absolutely spectacular. We stopped in and only got two pastries, but ended up ordering more. We then bought a loaf of sourdough bread and an onion and cheese pastry that was crunchy, buttery and sumptuous.

They also offer fantastic high-quality espresso and locally sourced ingredients from local, organic farmers. Each day they bake all of their inventory fresh and are proud to put forth delicious pastries. While it may be easier or safer to just get a pastry at a globally known company, supporting local small businesses and trying something new is much more fulfilling and tastier!

We took the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki (click link to book!) and enjoyed our sourdough loaf with some cherry preserves. Bringing delicious and local treats to fuel us on our travels is one of our favorite things to do.
