The unofficial national drink of Argentina is the Fernet con Coca. The combination isn’t too complicated, and each Argentinian has their own idea as to what the perfect ratio is. Fernet was brought from Italy with the Italian immigrants as a medicinal after-dinner digestif.
Fernet was created in 1845 and has notes of mint, various spices, eucalyptus, citrus and more. The medicinal properties of this beverage were known to aid digestion, relieve hangovers and reduce bloating. Mixing it with Coca Cola makes for a sweet and bitter drink that is absolutely beloved by locals and tourists alike.
This post is all about Fernet con Coca or Fernet and Coke!

what does it taste like?
I’ll be honest, I think this cocktail is definitely an acquired taste. I would equate it to trying an Aperol spritz for the first time. Fernet’s medicinal qualities and digestive properties enhance the herbaceous and woody flavors within the Coca Cola.
When trying this cocktail for the first time I’d start with a different ratio. Perhaps even an 8:1 ratio to slowly build up your palate’s tolerance for this new flavor.
