Simply The Best Restaurant in Valletta, Malta

After spending two weeks learning to sail in Malta, I feel confident that I found the best restaurant in Valletta! If you’re visiting, planning to visit, or live in Valletta you absolutely need to visit this gem.

This post is all about the best restaurant in Valletta.

If you’re looking for the best restaurant in Valletta, you should absolutely be looking for a traditional Maltese restaurant.

Malta is a small island country located in the mediterranean sea between Sicily, Italy and Tunisia.

This means that the Maltese cuisine is a beautiful blend of North African, Sicilian and Italian cuisines. The bold flavors, fresh ingredients and use of the abundant seafood makes Maltese food so unbelievably delicious.

We were recommended to head to Ta’ Kris for dinner for a local and authentic experience. Everyone who recommended it told us that it was hands-down the best restaurant in Valletta – and we absolutely agree.

2. what makes ta’ kris the best & what to order

Ta’ Kris is the best restaurant in Valletta. Big statement, but there’s good reason to back it. The attention to detail and focus on Maltese cuisine is apparent. Dining here makes you feel like you’re eating in someone’s home.

The staff is kind, excited to teach you about Maltese cuisine and super helpful when deciding which dishes to order.

While visiting Malta we ended up visiting this restaurant three times and were pleased each time. In order for a restaurant to earn the bold title of the best, the restaurant in Valletta should serve traditional Maltese food.

WHAT TO ORDER

The complimentary dish that’s brought to the table is called bigilla. It’s a delicious, garlicky, dip made of broad beans. Think hummus, but chunkier and heavier on the garlic. It’s SO delicious.

The trio of fish is fresh, simple and cooked to perfection. It also allows you to sample different fish traditional to this region and to perhaps try a fish you’ve never tried before.

This may sound lame, but their soup of the day, is always outstanding. We had the opportunity to try three different soups while we were in Malta and they were all fabulous. I highly, highly recommend.

The dish that really seals the deal is “Dad’s Famous Bragioli”. Any dish on a menu that refers to a family member better be incredible. It’s a beef stew with an delicious sauce of tomatoes, wine and fresh herbs. This dish is hardy, meaty, rich and flavorful. It’s like a hug in a bowl.

I really don’t think you could order wrong here, but those are my recommendations!

3. where is it located?

Ta’ Kris still exists in 2026! I say this because in 2025 Ta’ Kris closed their original location. They were able to move to a bigger, more ideal, waterfront location! Congratulations to them!

The new location is technically in Gzira, Malta right on the water. The location is great for anyone staying in Gzira, Sliema or Valletta.
